FINANCIRANJE /REZIDENČNI CENTER/ BIVANJE 2014-2015

 

Pursuant to the Law on the Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities (Official Journal of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 29/2010), the Act Establishing the Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities (Official Journal of the Republic of Slovenia, No. 72/2010), and the Regulations on the Criteria for the Use of the Residence Centre Cankarjeva, the Republic of Slovenia Public Fund for Cultural Activities (hereafter JSKD) issues

 

OPEN CALL FOR STAY IN THE RESIDENCE CENTRE CANKARJEVA (hereafter the Residence) FOR CREATORS / ARTISTS WHO WILL EXECUTE THEIR PROJECTS IN LJUBLJANA IN 2014 AND 2015
(hereafter the Call)

1. The Purpose of the Call

Open Call for Stay in the Residence For Creators/Artists who will execute their projects in the Residence in Ljubljana in 2014 and 2015.

 

 

2. Location, Premises and Equipment

Residence is located in Ljubljana. The multipurpose lecture room can be used for work, rehearsals, creative socialising, and small exhibitions. Immediately across the street is a small hall (“Skladovnica”) that can seat 50 people and is suitable for film screenings, small theatre performances, various kinds of presentations, and work meetings. On the floor above the lecture room is a studio and on the ground floor a specialised library with over 10,000 titles of relevant literature.

All rooms are modern in design and have a pleasant atmosphere.

 

 

3. The Subject of the Call

For Creators/Artists WHO ARE GOING TO CONCEIVE NEW PROJECTS in the Residence between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015.

JSKD offers the use of the Orange or Green apartment (with the running, maintenance and cleaning costs covered) and other facilities in the Residence (the library, the multipurpose hall, etc.). A grant is not provided for. Travelling expenses are not covered by the contract giver.   The maximum stay is 2 months.

 

 

4. The Fields of the Call

The Call is aimed at natural persons working and creating in any of the following fields:

  • -Visual and beaux arts

  • -Performing arts

  • -Literature

  • -Film and multimedia

  • -Cultural heritage preservation and folklore

  • -Vocal and instrumental music

  • -Contemporary dance

The intention is to enable creators/artists in residence to execute projects or conceive new projects and to receive additional training in the Residence in Ljubljana in the period between July 1, 2014 and June 30, 2015.

Each applicant will be able to stay in the apartment during the time slot stipulated in the Creator in Residence Contract concluded between the applicant and JSKD prior to the applicant’s arrival. The stay is limited to 3 months at a time.

 

5. The Terms and Conditions of the Call

Natural persons, creating in one of the fields stated above who comply with the following conditions, are eligible for stay:

  • -That the applicant has been expressing himself/herself in a given field over a longer period of time;

  • -That the applicant is well-established, shows promise at home and abroad, and has a proven interest in Slovene literature and culture.

 

 

6. The Expectations of the Contract Giver (JSKD)

The creator in residence is expected to:

  • - Cooperate with local and international guest artists;

  • - Cooperate with JSKD field advisors;

  • - Present his/her new work, or part of it, created or jointly created during their stay in Residence, publicly in JSKD venue (“Cepetka”), possibly also in other spaces and places, and to make an overview of his/her stay in Residence.

 

 

7. Publication of Works Created in Residence

The works created in residence will be published in printed, audio and video publications: in a book/catalogue, a magazine, on DVD and on the website of the Residence.

 

 

8. Applying and Application Assessment

Whether or not the application meets the terms and conditions of the Call is determined by a commission for opening applications comprised of JSKD employees chosen by the director. Applicants, whose applications are found to be formally incomplete, will be invited in writing to supplement their applications. The application must be supplemented within 5 days after receiving the invitation to supplement the application, or else the application is considered incomplete. Late applications, incomplete applications, or applications not submitted by eligible persons will be excluded from the selection and rejected.

 

 

9. Instructions for the Use of Residence

Applicants must use the in the Residence in compliance with the creator in contract concluded between the applicant and JSKD prior to the applicant’s arrival.

By signing the contract the applicant commits himself/herself to use the in Residence with due care, and agrees to be liable for any damages that might occur as a result of undue care – in case of which in accordance with the terms and conditions in the lease he/she must pay any incurred material costs and repay the rent for the time of his/her stay in

 

 

10. Criteria of the Call:

Criteria for proposals for creators in residence who are going to execute their projects (the maximum total of points: 55):

  • -The quality of the work the applicant has done so far in the artistic field he/she applies for (0-30 points),

  • -The amount of attention the work the applicant has done so far in the artistic field he/she applies for has received in the expert public (0-15 points),

  • -Applicant’s achievements in international cultural cooperation (0-10 points).

Priority criteria (the maximum total of points: 45):

  • -Presentation of a specific project (0-25 points),

  • -Planned execution of the project in a specific site with a possibility of incorporating the project into a wider international cultural scene (0-20 points).

 

 

11.  Assessment Method in Brief

The maximum total of points is 100. The projects with the highest total of points received on the basis of both the general and priority criteria may be selected.

Apart from selecting the successful applicants, the expert commission will also form a »reserve list« of applicants (ordered by priority) who may stay in Residence, if any of the initially selected applicants notifies JSKD that he/she is forced to cancel his/her residence, due to unforeseen objective circumstances. If the artist fails to provide objective reasons for cancelling, he/she is not eligible to apply for the JSKD Open Call for Stay in the Residence for the following three years.

 

 

12. Application Period

The opening date of the Call is November 18, 2013. The closing date of the Call is February 25, 2014. In the event of insufficient interest for the Call, it may be extended for up to 30 days.

 

 

13. Application Documentation

13.1. Application documentation for proposals for creators in residence who are going to execute their projects comprises:

- the text of the call,

  • - application form: JSKD-JR-residence1A_ENG(The applicant’s personal data, The application for stay and the operation and functioning of the art housing for 2014 and 2015, Fields of working and creation, Education and professionals experiences, A detailed plan of residence defining how the applicant envisions his/her creative work in the proposed period of time, with special emphasis on promotion of his/her own creative work, The applicant’s CV, References).

 

13.2. When submitting his/her application the applicant must enclose a fully completed application form JSKD-JR-residence1A_ENG.

13.3. The documentation of the Call is published on the websites of JSKD and the Residence.

 

 

14. Deadline and Submission of Applications

The application must consist of fully completed original application forms and must contain all of the required supplements and information stipulated in the documentation of the Call. Applicants may change and supplement their applications until the expiry of the application deadline. Any change or supplement must be clearly marked so that there can be no doubt as to which application it refers to.

14.1. Applications must be sent to the following address:
Public Fund for Cultural Activities of the Republic of Slovenia, Štefanova 5, 1000 Ljubljana by February 25, 2014 or posted as a recorded delivery by February 25, 2014 in a sealed envelope marked: DO NOT OPEN CALL FOR STAY IN THE RESIDENCE CENTRE CANKARJEVA  2014-2015. On the back of the envelope the first name, last name, and permanent address of the applicant or applicants must be stated.

14.2. With submission his/her application the applicant accepts all the terms and conditions and criteria of the Call as stipulated in the documentation of the Call, and agrees that his/her personal data may be used in the selection process.

 

 

15. Exclusion of Applications

After opening the applications, which will begin on March 3rd, 2014, JSKD will exclude from further selection process or reject:
-  Applications not submitted by an eligible person;
-  Late applications, late supplement of applications;
-  Incomplete applications.

17. Opening of Applications and Notification of Results

As planned, JSKD will notify the applicants about the results of the Call within 15 days after the opening of the applications, which will begin on April 5, 2013.
In case of unforeseen circumstances that would prevent the use of the apartments in the Call, stay in the Residence shall not be granted.
